Amplifying your teacher voice
As the subject association for Religious Education (RE), NATRE is the national voice for teachers of the subject. It maintains and raises the profile of RE and tackles issues and concerns around the subject.
Aims and Objectives
For all pupils in all schools have a high-quality education in religion and worldviews.
The key areas of focus for our work for the next three years:
- Building consensus about the vision of the Commission on RE: the need for action and the case for a focus on religious and non-religious worldviews
- Improving public perception and developing more appreciation of the nature of an education in religion and worldviews and its importance in a broad and balanced curriculum
- Investing in raising the standard of the workforce: to ensure all children in all
schools taught by well trained and qualified teachers - Securing space for education in religion and worldviews in school curriculums: so that all children in all schools receive high quality provision that is consistent with a statement of National Entitlement for the subject.
How do we achieve this
Promoting an Education in Religion and Worldviews
We are part of the RE Policy Unit where we work in partnership with the RE Council and its Board Members to ensure we are part of the conversation, championing the subject, raising awareness of teacher recruitment issues and much more.
We regularly attend Party Political Conferences to rally support for Religious Education amongst MPs and raise awareness for the subject in Parliament.
Following representation at the Education Select Committee and ongoing campaigning to get an increase the value of the bursaries from none, ITTs were awarded £10,000 grant for training in the academic year 2024/25, which is still around today.
We meet regularly with MPs, Lords and other influencers, to campaign for RE. We talk to them about RE in their constituency to illustrate the wide disparities in the level and quality of provision, explain the reasons for the situation.
