Year 6 – Christians and how to live: what would Jesus do? – L5 RS

About this resource

Year 6 Unit 37, titled ‚”How do Christians live? What would Jesus do?‚ focuses on how Christian beliefs influence daily life, decision-making, and moral responsibility. The unit is centred on the guiding question, ‚”What would Jesus do?‚Äù (WWJD), encourages aging pupils to explore the practical implications of Jesus‚” teachings for contemporary Christian living.

Pupils begin by studying Biblical texts, including teachings from the Sermon on the Mount and Jesus‚” parables, such as the Good Samaritan and the Sheep and the Goats. These narratives form the foundation for understanding Christian values like love, forgiveness, compassion, justice, and selflessness. The unit helps pupils understand that for many Christians, following Jesus means living out these values in everyday life.

The unit also introduces Christian charities and figures who embody these teachings in action, such as Mother Teresa, Martin Luther King Jr., and Christian Aid. Pupils evaluate how these individuals and organisations apply Christian teachings to address real-world issues such as poverty, injustice, and discrimination.

Opportunities are provided for learners to reflect, debate, and respond creatively to moral dilemmas, encourages aging them to express their own ideas about right and wrong, while showing respect for Christian perspectives. Pupils are invited to compare Christian responses with those from other worldviews and their own ethical thinking.

This unit supports religious literacy by helping pupils grasp how faith influences behaviour. It strengthens their understanding of Christian discipleship, moral choices, and the impact of spiritual belief on personal and social ethics.
