This course introduces the Understanding Christianity approach, deepening teachers’ understanding of core theology and the Bible’s big story while developing skills in theological and hermeneutical thinking. It demonstrates strategies for engaging pupils with texts and shows how the resource supports strong foundations for 11–14s in line with a religion and worldviews approach and the National Content Standard.

- To introduce teachers to the extensive Understanding Christianity resources and its teaching and learning approach
- To deepen teachers’ understanding of core theological concepts, and a ‘big story’ of the Bible, connecting with original artwork (the frieze)
- To develop teachers’ application of disciplinary thinking in RE, with a focus on theological and hermeneutical methods
- To demonstrate strategies for engaging pupils with reading and interpreting texts
- To see how the resource and the approach build strong foundations with 11-14s for later examination success.
- To understand how the Understanding Christianity resource connects with a religion and worldviews approach and the National Content Standard
