This volume offers clear subject knowledge and different methods for use with pupils: reflecting theological, philosophical or human/sociological ways of knowing.

Youngest pupils can explore the turban as a sign of belonging for some Sikhs and the value of sewa, selfless service. We look at the gurdwara as a local place of worship and more for the Sikh community, and learn about the Harimandir Sahib or Golden Temple at Amritsar.

Older pupils consider the three foundations or pillars of Sikhi: Nam Japna (remembering the name of Waheguru-God), kirat karna (earning an honest living) and vand chhakna (generosity and self-sacrifice). With our oldest pupils, we look at the first words in the Guru Granth Sahib and how they are understood and used.

This book includes stories from the Gurus, excellent pictures of gurdwaras to use with pupils and information from Sikh people themselves.
