Authentic Voices in RE: Integrating Lived Religion – Secondary

This course uses original research bringing the voices of people from diverse religious and non-religious traditions into the classroom, explored through teaching and learning activities. Using authentic voices of adherents brings the complex reality of lived religion to life, course participants will explore disciplinary ways of knowing, comparing survey and case study data with the teachings and practices of diverse traditions.

The course draws on surveys and interviews with Baha’is, Buddhists, Christians, Hindus, Jains, Jews, Muslims, non-religious people, Pagans and Sikhs. Participants will examine samples and apply ways of using them to deepen pupils’ substantive knowledge and ways of knowing.

This course complements the RE Today series, Investigating Worldviews. The series can be purchased at the time of booking for a reduced rate should you need it. If you are a secondary NATRE member you may already have access to some or all the series publications and can book the course without the accompanying books.

If you have ECTs in your department this will also support them in developing their confidence in teaching this rich area of study.
