Religious Education helps pupils engage with the world, understand difference and navigate complexity. However, many school and trust leaders remain unclear about the statutory expectations for RE, what high-quality RE looks like in practice, and how to ensure provision is strong across their schools.

Reports from Ofsted and other bodies have highlighted both the significance of RE within the curriculum and the reality that, in some schools, the legal entitlement to RE is not being fully met. At the same time, current policy discussion continues to underline the contribution high-quality RE can make to social cohesion, cultural understanding and pupils’ readiness for life in modern Britain.

Designed in conjunction with Dr. Richard Kueh, former HMI of Schools and National Subject Lead for Religious Education at Ofsted.

This series of briefings is designed for those with responsibility for curriculum across a school or MAT. It will provide a clear understanding of:

  • How RE prepares children and young people for a complex and diverse world
  • What high-quality RE looks like in any setting
  • What schools and teachers need in order to secure strong RE
  • What happens when RE goes wrong
  • What the responsibilities of senior leaders and governors are in relation to RE

The session is designed as a shared space where headteachers, CEOs and governors can come, listen and learn together. Places are limited to 30 screens so that leadership and governance teams can attend together from one setting if they wish. A waiting list will operate if demand exceeds capacity.

Benefits of attending

For the delegate:

  • clearer understanding of the place and impact of RE at school and trust level;

  • stronger shared understanding across leaders and governors;
  • greater confidence that RE is being considered strategically as well as operationally;
  • a practical framework for reviewing the framing, content and impact of RE.
