ERW6 Unit 3: How does Buddhist devotion explore and explain Buddhist beliefs?

About this resource

Pupils start off this unit by thinking about attachment and things to which they might be personally attached. They move onto learning about the Three Jewels, before finding out about Buddhist religious places, including how these places can show Buddhist teachings through construction and decoration, and practices that might take place within them. Pupils then explore sand gardens within Buddhism, discovering their links to impermanence, and how for many Buddhists, impermanence is related to ideas about suffering and attachment. At the end of the unit, pupils have opportunity to both show their substantive knowledge and reflect further upon personal ideas about attachment in light of their learning.
