ERW6 Unit 6: What do some Buddhists believe about caring for the environment, and how do they act on it?
About this resource
This unit begins with a focus on interconnectedness and interdependence in pupils’ lives, before moving on to look at Buddhist understanding of interconnectedness and interdependence through the story ‘Indra’s Net’. Pupils then explore Buddhist practices and teachings that can link to the environment, including ahimsa, mindfulness and the Five Precepts. This paves the way for encountering and considering both Buddhist voices and case studies of Engaged Buddhism. Finally, there is the opportunity to draw learning
together when considering the effect that Buddhist thinking and practice linked to the environment could potentially have on the planet.
