Technical skills, human understanding exemplar table

About this resource

Technical skills, human understanding is a practical Religious Education resource showing how high-quality RE contributes to vocational education, employability and preparation for working life from age 14. Designed for secondary RE teachers, school leaders and careers educators, this detailed exemplar table connects Religious Education and religion and worldviews with six vocational pathways: construction and the built environment; health and social care; digital, computing and AI; engineering, manufacturing and mechanics; business, finance and enterprise; and education, early years and public services.

The resource demonstrates how RE develops knowledge and transferable skills including ethical reasoning, critical thinking, communication, understanding different beliefs and perspectives, cultural awareness and responsible decision-making. It provides practical examples of how current RE learning can connect with workplace situations, professional responsibilities and future careers.

Use this resource to support curriculum planning, careers education, KS4 RE and conversations about why Religious Education remains relevant and valuable for every young person.
