Year 1 – Who do Christians say made the world? Sticky Knowledge

About this resource

The Year 1 Unit 7 lesson plan, ‚”Who Do Christians Say Made the World?‚ is an engaging and reflective resource tailored to introduce 5‚Äì6-year-old pupils to the Christian belief in God as Creator. This unit forms a foundation for theological understanding, encourages aging pupils to explore one of the most significant ideas in Christian theology‚-that the world is created and sustained by God.

Through storytelling, especially the Genesis 1 Creation narrative, children discover how Christians believe the world was made in six days, with rest on the seventh. Pupils are invited to reflect on what is beautiful, important, and worth looking after in the world. The unit links spiritual learning with real-world implications, drawing attention to how Christian belief in a creator God influences how believers show gratitude, respect for nature, and a commitment to stewardship.

The unit includes creative and sensory activities‚-listening to sounds of nature, drawing, and storytelling‚-to help children express their ideas and feelings. Key questions include: What do Christians believe about the world‚”s beginning? How should we treat the world if it is God‚”s creation? These are used to foster philosophical thinking at an age-appropriate level and to encourages age children to connect religious beliefs with their own experiences and values.

Children also begin to consider different perspectives, recognizing that not everyone shares the same view of how the world began. This supports early development of religious literacy, respect, and dialogue‚-keySticky Knowledgeills in RE learning.
