The Year 2 Unit 15 lesson plan, ‚”Who is a Muslim and how do they live? (Part 1)‚ introduces pupils to the core beliefs and practices of Islam in an accessible and engaging way. This unit lays the groundwork for understanding what it means to be a Muslim, focusing on belief in Allah, the role of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), and the significance of the Qur‚”an.

Pupils begin to explore Muslim identity by learning about the Five Pillars of Islam, with a particular focus on Shahadah (declaration of faith) and Salah (daily prayer). The unit uses stories, songs, visuals, and simple texts to introduce these ideas, supporting pupils‚” religious literacy and providing opportunities to engage with Islamic practices through creative and reflective activities.

A strong theme throughout the unit is faith in everyday life. Children learn how Muslim people express their devotion to God, show care for others, and try to follow the example of the Prophet Muhammad in their words and actions. These lessons offer rich opportunities for personal reflection, encourages aging pupils to consider how their own values and behaviours connect with those of others.

The unit also helps children understand the diversity within Islam, challenging stereotypes and encourages aging respect. By learning about Muslim family life, celebrations, and community involvement, pupils begin to appreciate how religious beliefs shape identity and belonging.

This foundational unit supports the development of empathy, respect, and religious understanding, preparing children to build deeper connections in Part 2 of the unit.
