Year 4 – What do Hindus believe God is like? – PowerPoint Lesson 3

About this resource

Year 4 Unit 27, ‚”What do Hindus believe God is like?‚ introduces pupils to key Hindu beliefs about God (Brahman), focusing on how Hindus express ideas about the divine through symbols, stories, festivals, and worship. The unit aims to develop pupils‚” religious literacy and promote respectful understanding of diverse worldviews.

Pupils begin by exploring the Hindu concept of Brahman as the supreme reality or universal spirit. They learn how Hindus understand God as both formless and manifest, and how this belief is expressed through many deities, each representing different aspects of Brahman. Pupils encounter well-known deities such as Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva, and investigate how Hindus worship these deities in different ways.

The unit encourages ages children to explore Hindu stories that express moral and spiritual themes, such as good overcoming evil or the importance of loyalty and devotion. Through these stories, pupils understand how symbolism and metaphor are used to communicate religious truths in Hinduism.

Children also examine how beliefs are put into practice through puja (worship), murtis (images), and festivals like Diwali and Holi, which celebrate divine characteristics and teachings. The unit promotes creative expression, such as through art and role play, to help students engage with the idea of God in multiple forms.

Throughout the unit, pupils are invited to reflect on their own ideas of God and compare them with Hindu perspectives, fostering empathy, inclusivity, and deeper theological thinking.

This unit supports pupils in understanding Hindu beliefs, worship practices, and how these shape the lives of believers in meaningful and colourful ways.

Resources hard to find

This lesson mentions needing resource sheets 4.3 and 4.4. The links to these do not take you to them, searching the resources doesn't bring them up. It would be useful to teachers if all resources for each lesson were available to download from the same page as the lesson powerpoint.

Hinduism Planning

Agree with the previous review. The links do not seem to take you to the correct place. I can find 4,3 and 4,4 but not the original poster of 4,2. This unit has been very challenging to plan from due to several incorrect/misleading links and difficulties finding the necessary supporting documents.

Missing resouces

Again, agree with previous reviews, can't access needed resources, even though full member. Spent nearly entire PPA going round in circles trying to put lesson together. Shame because the children have been very engaged
