Humans are hurting the Earth

As a class we discussed how humans are hurting the Earth and how we can look after it. 

We explored the bible quote ‘The Earth is full of His unfailing love’ Psalm 

33 – 5 and discussed what this meant to the children. The children talked about how they feel that God loves the Earth and all of the people and animals who call it their home and that because God loves the Earth we should too. 

We posed the question ‘How can we look after God’s green Earth?’ to the children. We took ideas from every child in the class. They shared with us how important they feel it is to recycle and how they help their parents to do this at home. They are passionate about not throwing rubbish on the ground and helping to pick it up when they see it. 

The children care about animals, their pets at home and the class guinea pigs. They talked how important it is to look after the guinea pigs -we must love them, make sure they have food, water and ‘stay warm’. 

The children have planted a garden this year in their outdoor space. They held a cake sale to raise funds to buy a green house and have planted a wide range of vegetables and flowers. They talked about plants and trees ‘helping the air to be clean’. They understand about the importance of flowers for the butterflies and bees as the children have raised butterflies from caterpillars this term – they hugely enjoyed watching them grow. 

Lastly, one child talked about loving humans and loving me (myself) because God loves us and the whole world.
