Reflecting his light

By Pan Pan, aged 14 from Woodford House

My artwork explores the theme “Children of God” by conveying the message of how human beings are not random; they reflect God’s character through who their thoughts, actions, and relationships. I chose to do a symbolic art piece rather than a realistic portrait to represent the different qualities God encourages us to live by. To express this point-of-view, I chose to display a big human silhouette in the centre of the page. The silhouette is separated into 5 main sections; the head, the right arm, the left arm, the upper body, and the lower body.
The orange sun is in the centre of the head to symbolise God as our light, guidance and wisdom. Just like how the sun provides light for us to enable us to see, God guides us through life, helping with every decision we make. Surrounding the sun, the bright yellow stars remind us of God’s divine and constant presence, helping us shine during dark and tough times.
The large pink, red and orange heart in the centre of the body represents God’s unconditional love that lives within us. It is the focal point of my artwork because love is the foundational core of Christian faith. The smaller hearts spreading upwards shows how God’s love is always growing within us whenever we share kindness with others, whether that’s by helping, respecting, being nice to others, etc.
The green vines and leaves on the left arm symbolise growth, life, and caring for God’s creation. The community of people on the other arm symbolise that everyone is equal and deserves the same value as the children of God, no matter their differences. The white dove represents peace, hope, and the Holy Spirit. The green and blue landscape represents our responsibility to care for the world God has created for us.
The yellow glowing halo and outlines reflect God’s continuous light and guidance. The pink, purple, and blue clouds in the background create a heavenly atmosphere, reminding viewers that God is always near to protect, guide, and watch over us.
Overall, my art piece communicates that being a child of God, doesn’t only mean to believe him, but also reminds us to show compassion, kindness, love in the way we live and treat others.
