Scarred Ozone

Green Faith Green Future 

I have named my RE artwork “Scarred Ozone” to emphasize the lasting damage pollution inflicts on our planet. The title also personifies the ozone layer as enduring the painful impacts of pollution, highlighting the extensive harm caused by littering and environmental neglect. 

My chosen theme is “Green Faith, Green Future,” with a specific focus on littering, a crucial issue often overlooked and insufficiently addressed. In my piece, I created numerous intricate clay figures representing humans who litter. These figures are placed on fragmented pieces of our Earth, and some surrounded by waste, to encourage reflection on their actions. Crafting these tiny figures was a long and difficult process, involving multiple attempts to achieve the desired look due to their small size and delicate details, they were challenging to perfect and often broke. However, I ensured not to waste any failed pieces, repurposing them as litter in my artwork. I carefully placed and painted these scraps with dirty” colours to resemble rubbish. 

A relevant quote from the Islamic holy book, the Quran that nicely complements my work: the sky a protected ceiling, but they, from its signs, are turning away” (Quran 21:32). This verse reminds us that Allah (God) cares for us by creating an ozone layer to protect us from harmful UV r reflects Allah’s foreknowledge that humans would damage this protective layer through selfish This verse comes from Surah Anbiya, which translates to “The Prophets” in Arabic. 

This work has helped me realise the critical nature of environmental issues, emphasizing their significance for current and future generations. I hope my artwork will inspire people to recognize the impact and destruction caused by seemingly trivial actions, such as dropping a chocolate wrapper.
