About this resource
The Year 2 Unit 13 lesson plan, ‚”What is the ‚”Good News‚” that Christians say Jesus brings? (Part 1)‚ introduces children to key aspects of Christian belief through the theme of good news or Gospel. The unit focuses on how Christians view Jesus as a bringer of hope, friendship, and forgiveness, and what that means for how they live their lives.
Through storytelling, discussion, and interactive activities, pupils explore Bible stories such as Jesus healing the leper, Jesus forgiving sins, and Jesus welcoming the outcast. These stories illustrate the compassionate nature of Jesus and how his actions reflect the message of God‚”s love. The lessons help pupils understand that Christians believe Jesus brings good news for everyone, especially those in need, lonely, or burdened.
This unit places an emphasis on moral and spiritual development by encourages aging children to consider what it means to be a good friend, to forgive, and to show kindness. Pupils are invited to draw comparisons between their own experiences and the Christian teachings about Jesus, promoting empathy and reflection.
The lessons also begin to lay the foundation for understanding how Christians try to follow Jesus‚” example in their own lives, at home, in school, and in the wider community. Pupils learn that prayer, going to church, reading the Bible, and helping others are ways Christians seek to live out the Gospel message.
Overall, this unit offers a rich, engaging start to the exploration of Christian values, helping children build religious literacy and a sense of how beliefs shape actions and relationships.
