Basketball and Meditation

By Jonah, aged 11 from The British School of Milan

My artwork shows trees, plants and flowers with a basketball court in the middle. This represents a sacred place which is important to me. For many people, a sacred space can be churches, mosques, synagogues, and other religious buildings. These places help people feel close to God. However for me, I believe a sacred space can also be found in nature and on basketball courts. When I’m surrounded by trees, plants and flowers and fresh air, I feel calm and peaceful. Nature helps me slow down and think about things that are important. It is a place where I can feel calm. The basketball court is also an important part of me. Sacred space Basketball is more then just a sport for me. When I’m on the court, I can focus completely on the game and clear my mind of all distractions. Shooting baskets, practising skills, can make it feel almost like a form of meditation.
