As fragile as Balloons

By Lyra, aged 12 from Kings Monkton School

My painting is called:fragile as Balloons
I have created this painting because it shows we all hold our own light,we all hold our own hope.

We can all find it within us.I beleave that if we do we can create a better world. A world where every one is treated equally no matter what their skin colour or religion, their gender or whether they are neurodiverse…. every one at peace, where every one has hope even in the darkest of times.

In my painting you can see a woman who looks at peace holding her own light/sun surrounded by a mini solar system.
I painted the planets around my main character to look like balloons because this represents the fragility of the universe. In her mind, her universe there’s peace and quiet. You can see the sun behind her and surrounding it is the real solar system. There is a girl exploring space, discovering a peaceful place where all things are in harmony. This aspect is a representation of freedom and imagination.

I chose to blend the colours to show that the sun lights up every thing,as it lights up space,it shines hope every where. I used peaceful colours as my painting it meant to inspire hope for the future, it is brightness and hope lighting up all the darkness that we can feel in the world.

I want people to view it as a scene where the world is at peace,no war,no discrimination.Where every one and everything is as equal and as balanced as it can be.As nature intended it to be.

I largely used water colour paints with acrylic pens to accent the stars.
There are astrological signs in the background, where the light fades, to bring more light.
