Paper Chain of Kindess

By Various, aged 6 from NCEA William Leech Church of England Primary School

Connecting to the 2026 Spirited Arts theme, “Faith in our Future, Hope in our Future,” the Paper Chain of Kindness visually represents how shared compassion builds a resilient tomorrow.
Each child decorated a single link with a specific act of kindness, showing that while an individual action or slip of paper might seem fragile on its own, interlocking them creates an unbreakable bond.
This beautifully illustrates the concept of community, as a collective strength, built when small, good actions are joined together. This interconnectedness deeply mirrors a core faith link found across global religious and non-religious worldviews, where helping others and practicing charity are vital, active expressions of belief. Whether through Sadaqah in Islam, Seva in Sikhism, Tzedakah in Judaism, or Christian and Humanist, these shared values act as the ultimate glue for society.
By physically weaving their individual deeds together, the children demonstrate that faith and hope for the future are things we actively construct together, one small link of kindness at a time.
