How I envisage God

How do we envisage God 

In four of the five world religions the word God is used to convey the idea of having a supreme omniscient being looking over and adapting the world. The Oxford Dictionary states the word God means, ‘A superhuman being or spirit worshipped as having power over nature human fortunes, a deity! However, I am not religious, and although recognising the intellect the Oxford Dictionary, I have a very different view of how I envisage God. 

I envisage God in the connections across the globe, the power and magic of being so cl knitted together. The Six Degrees of Separation is a good example of this. In 1929, Frigyes Karinthy wrote a short story in which a group of people play a game of trying to connect person in the world to themselves by a chain of five others. This inspired many others to research deeper into the suggestion – including Colombia University – which led an experiment to prove it’s truth. The experiment consisted of sending emails to 157 countries. The proved right, with an average number of intermediaries as six. 

Taking this idea, I showed this in my piece of artwork through drawing the generalised belief of what God is as the outline of Jesus, God, and Brahman, with the inside as what I believe the inside, deeper meaning of the word ‘God’ is to me. This displays Allah’s 99 names incorporated into linking brains spread throughout the drawing. In addition, they are all coloured in different colours, showing everyone is different but those differences are what bring us together. 

I have enjoyed creating this complex piece of artwork and challenging myself by learning how to write in Arabic to convey my unusual, atheistic view of how I envisage ‘God’. As the 66th name of Allah says, God is ‘The One’. If we use these connections and strengthen them, we could overcome so much more of these modern-day challenges, from climate change to war, as One.
