Year 2 – Who is a Muslim and how do they live? Part 2 PowerPoint Lesson 4

About this resource

The Year 2 Unit 17 lesson plan, ‚”Who is a Muslim and how do they live? (Part 2)‚ provides an engaging continuation of pupils‚” learning about Islam by deepening their understanding of the Muslim way of life. This unit builds on the foundational knowledge from Part 1 and explores how beliefs and practices shape the daily lives of Muslim people, especially focusing on faith in action.

Pupils are introduced to key concepts such as submission to Allah, the importance of the Qur‚”an, and examples of the Prophet Muhammad‚”s (pbuh) life that inspire Muslims today. Children learn how Muslims express their devotion through prayer (Salah), charity (Zakat), and by showing kindness and care to others. Real-life examples and stories make these practices relatable, helping children connect beliefs with behaviour.

The unit also looks at Islamic values such as gratitude, honesty, and compassion, supporting children’s spiritual and moral development. Pupils reflect on their own values and actions, comparing them to Muslim practices to foster empathy and understanding. Through story, discussion, creative tasks and reflection, children learn about identity, community, and respect for difference.

The unit supports religious literacy by introducing Islamic vocabulary and symbols, while also encourages aging pupils to ask and respond to big questions about belief, lifestyle, and commitment. By the end of the unit, pupils will have a clearer understanding of what it means to be a Muslim in the world today, particularly how faith influences everyday life in ways that are meaningful and inspiring.
