About this resource

Year 3 Unit 23, ‚”What do Christians learn from the creation story?‚ introduces pupils to the Christian creation narrative found in Genesis 1 and explores how this story shapes Christian beliefs, values, and lifestyle choices. Through a series of carefully sequenced lessons, pupils engage with the idea that God created the world with purpose and intention, and that humanity has a special place and responsibility within that creation.

The unit enables pupils to examine what Christians believe about God as Creator, the goodness of creation, and human responsibility as stewards of the Earth. Pupils are encourages aged to reflect on the concept of being made ‚”in the image of God‚Äù and what this means in terms of respect, kindness, and caring for the environment.

Activities in the unit include artwork, discussion, role-play, and writing tasks, all designed to help pupils internalize and interpret key messages from the creation story. They explore questions like: ‚”What is good about the world?‚ ‚”What does it mean to look after something precious?‚ and ‚”Why might Christians see the world as a gift?‚Äù

By drawing links between scripture and Christian behaviour today, this unit helps pupils see how biblical texts influence real-life choices. Pupils learn about the importance of thankfulness, responsibility, and ethical living, all rooted in Christian understanding of God‚”s creation.

Overall, the unit supports RE skills development including interpretation, empathy, and reflection, while enhancing pupils’ understanding of how religious beliefs impact daily life.
