Year 4 – What kind of world did Jesus want? – PowerPoint Lesson 1

About this resource

Year 4 Unit 25, ‚”What kind of world did Jesus want?‚ explores the Christian vision for society as taught by Jesus, focusing on love, justice, compassion, and equality. This unit gives pupils the opportunity to investigate how Jesus‚” teachings and actions reveal his hopes for a better world and what it means to live according to those values.

The unit begins by introducing pupils to the Gospel stories that illustrate Jesus‚” interactions with people, including those who were marginalized, sick, or excluded. Through exploring passages such as the calling of the disciples, the healing of the leper, or the story of Zacchaeus, pupils learn how Jesus modelled inclusion, forgiveness, and service to others.

Pupils reflect on the Christian belief that Jesus came to bring good news ‚Äì not only in a spiritual sense, but also by challenging injustice and encourages aging people to love one another. They examine what this good news might look like in practical terms and how Christians today try to live out Jesus‚” teachings in areas such as charity, community service, and peacemaking.

Opportunities for discussion, creativity, and empathy-building allow pupils to connect these values to their own lives and the world around them. They consider questions such as: What would Jesus say about the world today? What does it mean to live a life of service and love?

This unit promotes pupils‚” spiritual, moral, social, and cultural development, linking RE learning with broader themes of citizenship, justice, and ethical living.
